After the long drive back from Föhr we stayed overnight near Kassel and the next day had to make do with mostly cloudy weather. First stop in Kassel, at least the first where I took photos, was at a small private graveyard where only former employees of Park Wilhelmshöhe, and their families, are buried. Here lie my grandmother and grandfather, my father's parents, their gravestones in photo 5. My grandfather worked for the park for much of his life as a groundskeeper. Photos 6-10 were taken with an IR filter on my X100, blocking visible light and only allowing IR through, giving the graveyard a kind of spooky feel.
Photos 11-28 were taken in Park Wilhelmshöhe. Photo 29 is the house where my father grew up, and photo 30 is the house where his parents lived later in life. Both houses border right on the edge of the park. Park Wilhelmshöhe really is impressive, with wooded trails, streams and small waterfalls, beautiful flower gardens, as well as a scattering of buildings and features, architectural styles ranging from Chinese, to German, to Roman, to Greek! A daily waterworks display is put on in the park, with the released water starting from the top by a statue of Hercules, seen in the distance at the top center of frames 20 and 21, working its way down cascades, waterfalls, fountains, aqueducts, finally ending with a huge fountain at the lake in front of Castle Wilhelmshöhe, seen in photos 19 and 22-24. An upcoming gallery will have photos of this 'water show', with better weather too!
