Germany 2011 - Day 16 - Hercules, Edersee Dam and Castle Wilhelmshöhe

The first outing of the day was to the top of Park Wilhelmshöhe, the large Hercules statue. Unfortunately, there was still work going on rebuilding some of the crumbling stonework and rusting internal support structure for the statue, making for a less than ideal scene to photograph. The first photo is a map of the park, the second is a nicely framed view of Hercules from inside the visitor center. There are great views down on the city of Kassel from there and shot 9 is a long telephoto shot of one of the houses where my dad grew up. Well, at least I think I got the right spot...
We met up with some old friends of my dad's and all went to the Edersee Dam later for some sightseeing - photos 13-21. On the way back to Kassel, we dropped into a small town for a coffee and cake, and there, the waitress insisted on taking a photo of all of us together, so it is one of the few shots from this trip where I am in the photo too. Later we drove back to Park Wilhelmshöhe and were treated to a lucky break in the clouds, with some sun lighting up the castle late in the evening. Photo 37 is a telephoto shot of the distant Hercules statue reflecting in one of the castle's windows.
