An evening with friends, wandering around the 2012 Festival of Lights. What an astounding number of Christmas lights strung throught the gardens! The central area of lights in the gardens was constantly changing, in sync with the Christmas music sessions that were playing throughout the evening.
Almost all the photos were taken with my Fujifilm X-E1, handheld with the stabilized 18-55mm zoom, generally with a wide-open f-stop and usually at ISO 1600 and an 1/8 of a second. A handful of shots were also taken with my D800 and AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR when I wanted a slightly wider field-of-view. I used the X-E1 more since I found that wide open, its kit lens actually rendered lights near the edges of the frame in a slightly crisper and more consistent fashion than the 16-35mm on the D800. Had there not been so many people, a tripod allowing for a lower ISO and a smaller f-stop would definitely have been beneficial!
